Ken Bennett's Son Charged With Assault

Phoenix Fox News 10 just reported that Clifton Bennett, son of Arizona Senate President Ken Bennett, was arrested today and charged with assault. Bennett's son and another man allegedly sodomized young boys with a broom handle at at a camp where they were employed as camp counselors according to the Fox News 10 report.

Here's the account from The Arizona Republic:

The adult son of Senate President Ken Bennett was arrested Monday along with another man and accused of assaulting more than a dozen boys at a Student Council camp last summer in Prescott, officials said.

Prescott police Lt. Pete Hodap said 18 junior-high boys between the ages of 14 and 16 were "held down and assaulted with a broom handle" while clothed at the camp in June.

Allegations against Clifton Bennett, 18, of Prescott, and Kyle Wheeler, 19, of Glendale, who were counselors at the camp, came to police attention in December, Hodap said. Both men were arrested Monday and booked on suspicion of 18 counts of aggravated assault and 18 counts of kidnapping, because the victims were held down. Police also expect to arrest a third suspect, a juvenile.

Family values, anyone?

Everyone, especially the media, is blowing this whole thing out of proportion. I can GUARANTEE that no one was sodomozed, hurt, kidnapped or harmed in any way. These facts WILL come out at trial.

And you know this how? Were you there or are you just bearing your testimony on something you know nothing about? There seems to be an awful lot of witnesses. Either something untoward happened or there is some kind of massive conspiracy afoot.

I bet this never gets to trial. Senate President Bennett will see to that.

I agree with the previous anonymous post and YES, I was there. Clif and Kyle are both remarkable young men and would NEVER intentionally hurt anyone. This is a case of boys playing rough house and one child ridiculously exaggerating. I personally heard from one of his campers that when contacted by the police he was pressured into agreeing with the charges. If this does happen to get to trial the facts will come out and clif and kyle will be exonerated.

Are you suggesting that the Prescott police pressured one of the witnesses into giving a false statement? This sounds like quite a conspiracy theory.

I am the mom of one of the victims. 18 boys were terrorized for 5 days by the 3 Jr. counselors. My son was also choked until he passed out. If anyone truly believes that this was rough housing, then let 2 people twice your size hold you down while a 3rd broomsticks you. I'm not out to ruin anyones life. My goal is to make sure that this never happens again.

The Mormon church is a powder keg of sexual abuse. They learned nothing from the attempts to white-wash and payoff victims.

Great blog. Mind if I add a link to yours in my "Outer Blogness" section? I will not do so without your express permission.

Oops - incomplete thought, there.

The Mo church didn't learn anything from the CATHOLIC church and the priest scandals...

Sorry!

Dearest sarah and bree,

I will make the assumption that you are sincere and aren't just trolling my blog. I am a former Mormon myself and am quite well acquainted with the Mormon religion. (Have either of you actually read the Book of Mormon?)

Even though I no longer believe in the Mormon religion, I bear no hostility to Mormons in general.I don't believe that Mormons are all running around sexually assualting people. I don't think Mormonism is much crazier that a lot of religions. I have friends who are still believing Mormons.

Those I have a problem with are the self-righteous Mormon politicians who believe in the most severe justice for those who do not share their faith, but leniency for their own, despite whatever crimes they have committed. I believe that it is a travesty of justice that young Bennett will get off without serving a day in jail and will soon serve a mission.

If you are interested in learning more about why some of us have choosen to leave the Mormon religion, may I suggest exmormon.org? If the church weren't true would you want to know?

Isn't agravated assault in Arizona a felony? If so, I don't think this young man would be allowed to go an a mission since he is pleading guilty.

See the top post on this blog, Yavapai prosecutors are seeking to reduce the charges to a misdemeanor.

"Under the plea agreements Bennett and Wheeler could face a maximum two years in prison. But the court could reduce the charges to a misdemeanor and no jail time."

Do you see a patern with Latter Day Saints. Sexually perverted! A religion based on sex.(Your own earth and your own stockpile of virgins) is bound to produce this. Come on... If you were raised in a church that told you if you're a good mormon you will get to "repopulate" your own earth then you would have an abnormal sex drive. I mean they believe God the Father came down and had sex with the virgin Mary. See the patern, even "their God" had to have sex! Most LDS I grew up with are driven with lust. It's part of their religion. They are always in the papers for something. False Religions bring out every kind of abnormality...look at the Catholic Molesters and the Muslim Killers. Driven by perversions, false doctrine, idols and their father the devil. Signed Christian

"(Your own earth and your own stockpile of virgins)"
You're just another hateful idiot who likes to bad mouth other people, most likely because if makes you feel better about your pitiful self. You obviously know nothing about Mormons or Mormonism. Let me know when you can find anything in our teaching that backs up your statement about the virgins.

I have a lot of love for a lot of mormons, but I don't think most mormon women know what they actually profess to believe. They are kept in the dark. What are mormon men so afraid of? But that's a discussion for another day.
I don't think this attack had anything to do with religion, just another incidence of hazing gone overboard, I also don't believe these boys will serve a day or even have much of a smudge on their records. And that is about religion.
The good old boy network is alive and well especially in rural AZ, and given this guys connections, I'd say his son's chances of conviction are slim to none.

This case was swept under the rug. The mormon network works above the law. These victims will not see justice. LDS is Taking over Arizona, I mean Southern Utah. I'm open to religions, but when the attitude of acceptance and tolerence at a high school is now known for the multiple suicides (at least 4 in a school year) rumored to be due to bullying as the rise in mormon student population is noted. No, it was not an internet game that the then mormon principal congered up. The students went to administration for help and were turned away. That principal is now going to lead a brand new high school. Worried, you bet I am. And I grew up with mormons in California. Not the same here in Az. They are the mean girls and the bullies of both high schools and middle schools, picking on the non mormon students in the honor programs and being disrespectful to the non mormon teachers.
